I have been prescribed Xanax 8 mg QID at first in 2007, along with Klonopin 6 mg 3x daily every 8 hours apart. It is now 2025, and I am 36 years old. Xanax is a wonderful drug if you have panic disorder, paranoia from abuse, and anxiety disorder with severe agoraphobia. After I got away from my daily abuse when I was 18 and had no idea why I was on this earth, and every pebble that hit the ground made me have a fit of panic-based mania, Xanax was the only thing that helped me. The only downside is after this long of taking it, the tolerance is a huge challenge. Having the longer-acting Klonopin works well alongside. I give it a 9 for Xanax, and that’s because long-term use has me so addicted I don’t know how to function without it. Good vibes to all.

It’s been a miracle for my anxiety. Unfortunately, fixture won’t prescribe it in 2025. My depression is bad and so many panic attacks. I’m afraid to leave my house or drive. It’s ridiculous they are too scared to prescribe it. I did the genetic testing and I can’t take any antidepressant. What do they expect me to do? My quality of life is terrible now.
noshitadmin –
The withdrawals are hell on earth, it’s like being tortured alive. It’s not just the withdrawals that are bad but the long-term brain damage that will ensue afterwards that I don’t wish on my worst enemy.

I take it for GAD, which appears to have a genetic component, and my 10-day prescription lasts me for 6 months. I take the lowest dose. How it helps me is it literally makes me forget to perseverate. I take one occasionally for sleep. It is a very rare day indeed if I ever take two, or two in a week. I’m used to having GAD, so I’m able to take the meds when I feel I cannot cope with having anxiety at that moment. It also stops the constant thoughts that keep me awake at night on occasion. However, I’ve avoided taking it for sleep. Because I can make a prescription last so long, I think my doctor is willing to continue to prescribe it, obviously, I’m not abusing it nor addicted to it.

Developed chronic anxiety when my mom passed at age 10. I was a lab rat for the physicians who treated me. I’m a treatment/drug-resistant patient who’s been on every drug known. Prescribed Alprazolam as a last resort, after I developed irreversible mental & physical damage caused by “safer” SSRIs, SNRIs, & antipsychotic drugs that almost cost my life. I take 2 mg of Xanax 4 times daily (10 mg total), a combination of amphetamine/dextroamphetamine quad salts (Adderall IR) 30 mg 2 times daily, Desoxyn (Methamphetamine HCl) 10 mg as needed for ADHD & Endocet (Oxycodone HCl) 7.5/325 as needed for pain. Every other disorder is treated with Xanax & is the only reason I’m able to leave this post. I have social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, CPTSD, PNES (psychogenic non-epileptic seizure disorder) catatonia, & a few cardiovascular, neurological, & gastrointestinal disorders & one drug is able to treat them all. It literally saved me. I’m 33 now.

I spent my adult life working in war zones, etc., and for many years, suffered from anxiety, depression, and nightmares. I eventually got to the place where I had a hard time making it through a day. When I was finally diagnosed with CPTSD, I tried at least a dozen different combinations of meds, and none really worked until I was given venlafaxine and Xanax. I no longer feel drugged, numbed, or emotionless. I no longer fight anxiety and depression just to make it through a day. Xanax made normal life possible again for me.

I love how this med makes me feel! Before, I was a college student and agonized because of being homesick, and the other girls were brutally jealous and mean. I spoke with my family doc, and he put me on 1 mg 2 times per day, plus an Ambien to sleep. I was like a new person. I didn’t care who or what they thought of me or what they said. I was able to just laugh it off. Coming home for winter break, I was told how much better I looked and seemed different. I wasn’t as agitated. Seems like my antidepressant used only catapulted me straight into bipolar mania.

10/10. Drug couldn’t work better. I have anxiety and racing thoughts. Take 0.25 or 0.5 and I’m good to go. I cannot believe how good this works for me. Don’t take too much or it will become less effective. I nibble on 0.5 during stressful work days and it always works for me.
noshitadmin –
Not a great med for insomnia. I was taking 2 mg at bedtime. Worked awesome at first then quit working. I was switched to Klonopin which was a little better.
noshitadmin –
It’s very good, it helps me sleep better, it makes me calmer on a daily basis. It just gets in the way of sex, because I lose the desire a little.

I’ve had maybe 5 side effects in the 20+ years that I’ve taken it for my PTSD/GAD. – Sleepiness, forgetfulness, memory issues, increased hunger, talkative. ~Nothing else. Now the downside is- addiction. I’ve actually had to learn how to use this medicine through incredible self-discipline. You will build tolerance to this drug within 2 weeks and require a tapering wean down to get off. If you take it long term, you have to taper every 2 weeks to keep your tolerance down. Withdrawals are harsh so that’s where the discipline comes into play. Now if you can take it only “as needed” during a panic attack and not need it daily- perfect! That’s how I recommend this medication. But to those who suffer 24/7 with acute attacks, you must follow the taper system or you will be in a world of addiction issues. But nothing will stop a panic attack in its tracks faster than Xanax.
noshitadmin –
On Xanax for the past 25 years, 0.5 mg in the morning and 0.5 mg at night. Feel relaxed, no anxiety, no panic attacks, and no stress. This has changed my interpersonal relationships. I don’t care about small issues anymore and enjoy a comfortable life with family and friends. Since every medicine has side effects and so does Xanax. I am 71, and my doctor is not happy with my taking Xanax for such a long time, but I know that if I leave it, my life will be miserable as I am extremely intolerant. So why spoil family life at age 71? Do not take any medicine based on other people’s experiences. Always consult your doctor and weigh the pros and cons.

Male, 69 years old, using this medication for over 20 years. Never more than 0.75mg in a day, on and off. Works great for my anxiety and mild depression. I don’t use drugs or alcohol. Highly recommended. Ask your doctor.
noshitadmin –
I’ve been taking Xanax for panic disorder for approximately 27 years. It’s the only medication that works for me. I’ve tried SSRIs to no avail. And I can’t take tricyclic antidepressants due to also having a heart arrhythmia. I’m not convinced they would work for this condition anyway. A longer-acting benzodiazepine wouldn’t be sufficient either because we who have panic disorder need something fast. Panic attacks are a living hell. There are over-the-counter meds like Benadryl and Meclizine that help some with prevention, but if and when the attacks come, Xanax is the only medication that works. I have never abused this medication, and I hope to God it is never taken off the market. It works.
noshitadmin –
Works amazingly, but if you are safe with putting away your medication after taking it, then you’re fine. Unless somehow the day after only taking one pill, your entire bottle is empty. Highly recommended for anxiety or panic disorder, it’s very quick and efficient.
noshitadmin –
It works great, and you get tired enough to go to sleep if you need that, but it’s best used for short term, as it’s very prone to give nasty withdrawals, like psychotic ones, but great benzo compared to Valium. I like this one more, as it just screws a cork in the anxiety, and you can forget about it after 12 hours. The drug is gone fast out as well. Good job!
noshitadmin –
Xanax is a miracle cure for me. I was so bad, I didn’t want to leave my house. But since being on them, I’m actually a manager at a restaurant now and work long hours without having a meltdown. 100% a 5-star rating. I’m able to function like a normal person.
noshitadmin –
After my pain and surgery, it assisted me with calmness.
noshitadmin –
Ok, so it’s great. If you are panicking, restless, super depressed, it’s like a warm blanket wraps over you and solves all your problems. But if you can, I highly don’t recommend you take it regularly. It can’t solve your mental health/the thing that’s hurting you. You still need to train your mind to get stronger, learn to face your pain on your own. Just use it for emergencies/panic attacks or on occasion. It’s very addictive, and you build a tolerance very quickly. If you let it take over, it will make your life worse off than you started, and you will need to take it just to feel ‘normal’. It also can mess with your cognitive ability. I won’t let myself build a tolerance of over half a pill. I have no idea how people go to work every day on this stuff. It’s a 10/10 for what it does. But be careful. If your doc isn’t properly warning you of the risks, please look into it yourself. They have rehab clinics for Xanax. That’s not normal.
noshitadmin –
Without a doubt the most effective medicine I’ve ever had. It gave me a fighting chance at life. Disappointing, the negative stigmas that surround it, but if you don’t constantly go up on your dose, it can make life manageable.
noshitadmin –
Can’t sleep, racing thoughts. Go to sleep at 11:00 PM and awake at 3:00 AM every night. I am also fighting breast cancer.

Every medical expert talks more negatively about Xanax as compared to its benefits. My experience till date is on the contrary. I am 70-plus with one functional kidney and two stents in my heart. I have been on Xanax 0.5 to 1 mg per day for over 25 years. Without Xanax, my life would have been miserable. Till date, by the grace of God, I have no negative issues that can be attributed to Xanax except dependence, which I don’t mind as I can afford it. But consider the pros and cons. I drive in a normal way, my balance is normal, and it has helped me get rid of sleepless nights. Researchers should also take into account the cost/benefit ratio of Xanax and avoid so much negativity. My cardiologist has no issue with my taking Xanax as he confirmed to me that it doesn’t lead to dementia. Please advise why I should leave Xanax and put myself in a miserable condition.
noshitadmin –
My condition is a bit of a gotcha. I have ADD with slight hyperactivity and panic disorder. Living with these co-existing conditions is absolute hell. When I tell you that Xanax is a game changer, I’m not joking. Yes, there are risks. But ‘dependency’? You become no more dependent on it than you would if you had diabetes and had to take metformin or insulin. If you have a tendency toward substance abuse, then I would proceed with caution. For the rest of us, it has saved our lives.
