I started on Suboxone, but I was only on it for about 2 months before I got pregnant, so the doctor switched me to this. “No, my baby didn’t withdraw, APGAR score of 9 and I exclusively breastfed for 2 years.” Currently, after 6 years, I’m on 8mg twice a day. I’ve been clean for 6 years! My doctor says I can be on it for the rest of my life possibly, but that’s just fine. It’s better than being a junkie and living on the street doing awful things for drugs. But if you don’t want to be clean, this medicine won’t work for you. You also need to do therapy and possibly mental health medications as well, this drug won’t just solve your addiction problems but it makes it a LOT easier to get yourself together. The side effects are a lot less than with other opiates, and they really don’t bother me at all at this point. Tip for people using this for pain, the less you use, the better pain relief you’ll get. High doses are for maintenance.

I have read every review on this medication and there seems to be one common thread. Every person that is addicted to opioids has a need to explain why, when, where, and how because that’s what opioids do…they change your brain chemistry. Every person’s reason is valid to them. I promise I’m not on a soapbox, I just wish after all these years someone could show me how to fix that part. I had been on pain pills for several years for chronic pain. My last year on them, I was prescribed 3 80mg oxy per day, 6 30mg oxycodone per day, 4 soma per day, and 3 1mg Xanax per day. I have been on maintenance buprenorphine now for 8 years at 24mg/day, until recently I was given an extra dosage up to 32mg/day. In my experience, it gave me my life back. I’ve only taken this medication for 8 years. It does not cover my pain completely. If I had to put a number on it, I would say maybe by 50%, but what’s my alternative? I would have died eventually by being prescribed that much medication.

This is by far the best pain medicine I’ve been on for chronic pain. I have severe neck issues as well as lower back issues that I will have for the rest of my life. About five years ago, someone mentioned this drug to me and that it may help with pain even though its use is to help users to get off opiates. I wasn’t a drug user, however, I was able to get onto this drug by agreeing that I took more pain medicine than I should’ve at one point. I’ll never forget the day I went onto this drug. I walked out of the doctor’s office with a pain level of two, which I hadn’t felt in years! I am so grateful that I have a life now where I can move around instead of being in pain all day long, as the opiates really weren’t working as well and nothing close to what I’m feeling now. It has not reduced my pain. I suffer from RA and multiple skeletal issues. 4 Knee replacements, fused lumbar, 1 hip replacement, 1 severe arthritis, left arm was crushed w/multiple surgeries to repair. The only change has been that pain meds seem to work better, but only for a bit. The biggest problem is that the doctor pushes Subutex to the point of poorly managing the pain. With multiple issues this drug is not right for me. The only thing that works for me low dose er and the ability to have a low dose break through med.

I have been on and off the suboxone and now on the subutex for the last 12 months and I’ve found it so much better in so many ways. Although Subutex saved my life and stopped my dependency on over-the-counter codeine products over eight years ago (I have never used any street opiates), it has provided a barrier to me receiving any pain relief for my back condition. The chronic pain I have experienced has caused me to go from quite a stable, happy person to a withdrawn, lonely person within a year. I cannot face people in this amount of pain, I cannot look after my place either. I cannot clean, I cannot stand for long periods, and I certainly cannot bend my body in any way because of pain. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 12 years back. The pain was extreme the first year I was diagnosed. I was prescribed an overload of opioids and Xanax, along with the other basic treatment program. It only gave me minor relief, my life was over. The pain became so extreme, I had several shingles outbreaks, and then the shingles went into my nervous system (postherpetic neuralgia). I did some research about Subutex trials for fibro pain. I did have to beg an addiction doctor to take me on for pain management. They agreed, but I had to leave the Xanax and opioids behind to receive treatment. It was difficult to make the sudden change, my anxiety took some time to manage, but the pain relief was astounding. Finding a doctor who will use Subutex for pain management is not easy, but for me, it is worth the extra effort.

Well I agree with plenty of comments regarding how helpful it can be. Just feel it’s ruining my insides, teeth and bones after being on it so long/9-10 years, but then again as others have said may stay on it for life because not getting any younger etc & is it worth risking relapse?! I don’t even smoke weed or cigarettes anymore. Have used on top about a handful of times which isn’t too bad in nigh on a decade because luckily had helpful Keyworker’s. What the Pandemic rarely see Counselors let alone GP’s so it’d take forever to get back on it. Was on 20mg now 12 + a weekly script as can’t tolerate that daily Supervised Dose malarkey. Really makes feel DOWN/inadequate etc. Did try the Monthly injection recently to get off Buph’ however had 0 energy + the lethargy is overwhelming. Slowly does it when coming off this with plenty of Relaxation.

I am 44 and lived with chronic pain most of my life. I have a list of issues that caused my pain, including fracturing my back. I was on every pain medication you can think of, down to injectable hydromorphone. Every injury I got, I had to increase doses for the pain meds to work… I was so tired of being on the rollercoaster ride. I felt like the pain was taking me down… it got super costly because insurance wouldn’t cover any of the meds anymore. I finally decided I am DONE! 15 years on subutex in the UK, now have a job, family, house, big motorcycle. I have been stable for many years and have noticed that different batches of subutex can be slightly different but this last batch, b.n 023103 is the worst. I feel so bad I even feel like quitting my job as it has been a huge struggle for 2 months. My symptoms are like withdrawals I can function but its very hard, I haven’t used in many years. Trying to get help is almost impossible so had to contact indivior myself which was not easy. Now I’m hopefully getting a different batch sent to my pharmacy but will they be better and how long will the batch last I don’t know. Have tried generic sandoz but in the past they were inferior to subutex. Don’t be fooled into thinking all buprenorphine is made the same. I was on Subutex for 3 years because Suboxone gives me migraines. I was an IV heroin addict for 6 years before starting Subutex. In 3 years, I had zero cravings, got my life together, and had a beautiful son who experienced minimal withdrawal symptoms after being born. Subutex changed my life. The only negative side effects were a lack of sex drive and constipation. I weaned from 16 mg to 0.25 mg in about 5 months. I stopped taking Subutex 18 days ago. Withdrawal symptoms didn’t start until day 7. Withdrawal was minimal after tapering so low. I am experiencing some depression now, but the cravings are nonexistent still. Subutex gave me the clean time I needed to stay clean after Subutex. I would recommend this medication to anyone trying to stop taking opioids or heroin. Many of my friends from addiction are now functional adults as well. Subutex and Suboxone are miracle medications.

I am 61 and started generic Subutex about a month ago, 8 mg 3 times a day after 15 years of fentanyl prescriptions for pain caused by lupus myelitis, the worst chronic pain I’ve ever experienced. I wanted to get off of fentanyl, but this seems just as bad, with twitching or seizing every day, sometimes all day long, and worse after doses. I had been prescribed many prescriptions over my lifetime and never got addicted to any of them except opiates. Doctors were giving me pain medicine for various things such as surgeries, prescribing me Percocet and hydrocodone. I got in a car accident and got put on a consistent amount of pain medicine every month, and my tolerance shot through the roof within a very few short months. For 2 years, I was on consistent, everyday hydrocodone treatment, and my habit reached anywhere from 250mg hydrocodone to 400mg hydrocodone per day. I’ve been on subs for ten years now, was the only way to stop 16 years of addiction to heroin without relapsing, but this drug is harder to get clean from compared to heroin. I tried for one week and it was hell, I’ve never been in so much pain. My bones hurt so much, felt like ants running in my blood, the sweat, the shivering, no sleep at all. It is hell 10 times worse than heroin. If you start taking subs, take it only for a couple of weeks. After that, you can’t stop taking it. I’m reducing it now to 4 ml a day. I want to stop taking it as I’ve been told the long-term use of subs is not good for your health. All the best to all.
