Methadone is a prescription drug, and is part of a group of drugs known as opioids. Opioids interact with opioid receptors in the brain and elicit a range of responses within the body; from feelings of pain relief, to relaxation, pleasure and contentment.
Methadone is taken as a replacement for heroin and other opioids as part of treatment for dependence on these drugs. Replacing a drug of dependence with a prescribed drug in this way is known as pharmacotherapy. You can buy methadone from online dealers under several street names. Online vendors sell cheap, ship discretely, and are affordable. The USA is a very important market for the commercialisation of methadone. As well as improving wellbeing by preventing physical withdrawal, pharmacotherapy helps to stabilise the lives of people who are dependent on heroin and other opioids, and to reduce the harms related to drug use. Methadone is also used to relieve pain following heart attacks, trauma and surgery.
How is it used?
The Victorian pharmacotherapy program uses the syrup form of methadone. There are 2 brands of this liquid: Methadone Syrup® and Biodone Forte®.3 Generally, there are 2 types of methadone programs:
- Maintenance (long-term programs): May last for months or years, and aim to reduce the harms associated with drug use and improve quality of life.
- Withdrawal (short-term detoxification programs): Run for approximately 5-14 days and aim to ease the discomfort of stopping the use of heroin.
For pain relief methadone is administered through an injection or tablets.
How effective is it?
Methadone treatment is more likely to be successful if it is part of a comprehensive treatment program, which addresses the body, mind and environment in which heroin has been used.
For example, treatment may include a combination of methadone, counselling, alternative therapies and the development of a positive support network of peers, friends and a support group.5
Methadone maintenance may not work for everyone, so it is important to work with a doctor or drug counsellor to find the best approach.
Advantages of methadone maintenance over heroin use
- Using methadone on its own is unlikely to result in an overdose.
- Methadone maintenance keeps the person stable while they make positive changes in their life.
- Health problems are reduced or avoided, especially those related to injecting, such as HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C viruses, skin infections and vein problems.
- Doses are required only once a day, sometimes even less often, because methadone’s effects are long lasting.
- Methadone is much cheaper than heroin.5
Effects of methadone
There is no safe level of drug use. Use of any drug always carries some risk – even medications can produce unwanted side effects. It’s important to be careful when taking any type of drug.
Methadone affects everyone differently, based on:
- size, weight and health
- the amount taken.
The effects of methadone last much longer than the effects of heroin. A single dose lasts for about 24 hours, whereas a dose of heroin may only last for a couple of hours.6
People with pre-existing impaired liver function (due to conditions such as hepatitis B, hepatitis C or prolonged alcohol use) may require careful monitoring while receiving methadone treatment.7
Side effects
The most common side effects of methadone are:
- sweating (drink at least 2 litres of water each day to prevent dehydration)
- difficulty passing urine
- loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
- abdominal cramps
- constipation
- aching muscles and joints
- irregular periods
- low sex drive
- rashes and itching
- lethargy, mental clouding and confusion.7
Dose-related effects
Some people on methadone programs will experience unwanted symptoms during their treatment due to their dosage not being right for them. This occurs particularly at the beginning of treatment.7
If the dose is too low, the following symptoms may be experienced:
- runny nose
- yawning
- high temperature but feeling cold and sweating with goosebumps
- irritability and aggression
- loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting
- abdominal cramps and diarrhoea
- tremors, muscle spasms and jerking
- back and joint aches
- cravings for the drug they were dependant on.
Overdose
Moreover, If the dose is too high, the following symptoms may be experienced. Call an ambulance straight away by dialling triple zero (000) if you have any of these symptoms (ambulance officers don’t need to involve the police):
- depressed breathing, stupor or coma due to accumulation of the drug
- severe constipation with obstruction of the bowel, or inability to pass urine
- marked allergic reaction, with swelling of the face, lips, tongue and throat, wheezy breathing or tight chest
- intense red rash with itching or hives
- collapse.
Long-term effects
However, Methadone in its pure form will not cause damage to the major organs of the body. Prolonged use of methadone will not cause any physical damage.
Withdrawal
Methadone withdrawal develops more slowly and is less intense than withdrawal from heroin. Withdrawal symptoms are similar to those listed under ‘Dose-related effects’ under ‘too low’ dose. Equally, most of these effects will begin within 1 to 3 days after the last dose and will peak around the 6th day, but can last longer.
This medication is used to treat severe ongoing pain (such as due to cancer). Methadone belongs to a class of drugs known as opioid (narcotic) analgesics. So, it works in the brain to change how your body feels and responds to pain. Do not use this medication to relieve pain that is mild or that will go away in a few days (such as pain from surgery). This medication is not for occasional (“as needed”) use. It helps prevent withdrawal symptoms caused by stopping other opioids. Buy Methadone 10mg Online For Sale

Was run over by a drunk driver at 17, spent 5 weeks with left leg in a trapeze. I have dealt with chronic pain for 49 years but had a good 28-year career as VP in telecom before I ruptured my first disk and it successively got worse since 1994. My first chronic pain doctor allowed me to try everything before he finally offered methadone, and I immediately settled on that for the past 25 years. I was taking 40 mg for 20 years, and the past 5 years I cut myself back to 20 mg/day before it became a CDC mandate. I was fortunate to be on every 3-month visits for urine tests and call in when I wanted a refill for 25 years. But, after the CDC has scared every doctor in the country and made it miserable for all pain patients, my doctor has now required monthly visits. However, I’ve found that consuming a combination of good foods that are anti-inflammatory, red wine, taking creatine monohydrate supplements (which make your muscles bigger), and getting exercise may have reduced my pain to finally get off the methadone.

Methadone has been a lifesaving drug for me. I am a recovering heroin addict. And because of methadone, I have been able to stay sober for three and a half years.

I was using Oxycodone 15 mg X 4 daily. After adding Methadone 10 mg 2 X daily, I was able to reduce the Oxycodone to 15 mg 3 X daily. My primary care doctor helped me manage my pain for 12 years. Then he stopped practicing. Can’t get the energy to schedule an appointment with a pain doctor. Methadone 10 mg tabs helped me sleep and use less Oxycodone. I’m in St. Louis, MO. Any referrals would be welcome. Thanks for supporting.

My pain doctor switched me to methadone after I’d been on another long-acting opioid for years. I don’t really care what I take as long as it’s effective in treating my chronic pain. Methadone isn’t quite as effective as the other opioid, but the price difference is significant, so I’m fine with that part of the change. He reduced my dosage, but methadone isn’t a 1:1 conversion, so it’s equivalent to what I was prescribed before. What I am a bit concerned about is that I was diagnosed with hypertension 2 years ago. I was prescribed an anti-hypertensive medication that I take daily. I also take my blood pressure readings regularly. Since starting methadone, my blood pressure has been insane! It’s gotten as low as 71/41 and as high as 151/100. It’s all over the place throughout the day. There haven’t been any other changes, so it has to be the methadone.

I’ve been prescribed 15x4mg Dilaudid/daily (60mg IM/daily) for roughly 3 years. I had overtaken them this last prescription and had run out 2 days early. I thought it wouldn’t be so bad. Within 24 hours, I had the worst flu-type symptoms I’ve ever experienced. Within 36 hours, I couldn’t even muster the willpower to change my clothing. Despite being in an extreme physical and mental deficit, I reached out to a clinic. Within 30-45 min, I had been urine tested, spoke with 2 nurses, a doctor, and was given a day’s RX of methadone to tide me over. I went from 60mg Dilaudid to 20mg of methadone. I wouldn’t say I was at 100%, but an hour after taking it [methadone], the miserable withdrawal subsided and I finally slept without symptoms keeping me up all night.

I’ve been in this for 18 years. This is a life saver for a lot of people. My niece, for one. But for me, when I started, it was too easy to get and not enough info on how strong it is, drug interactions, and the worst withdrawals you can imagine. The internet was not as easy to have then, like it is today, so I had to take the clinic’s word for you can stop whenever you’re ready. I was on Lortabs, my doctor just closed up and left one day. I had 2 small sons and had to take care of them without withdrawal. My point is do your research. I wish I would have taken the week of not sleeping versus a lifetime of methadone. It was worth it for some, I want to make that clear. Good luck to everyone.

I am 27 years old. I have a love/hate relationship with methadone. Even though methadone helped me come off illicit drugs, it has severely impacted my life to the point where I don’t have a life. Everyone always says methadone is supposed to help you improve your quality of life, but mine has drastically declined in different ways while on it. About 5-6 hours after I dose, I become extremely tired. I sleep about 15 hours a night, waking up still tired, having chronic fatigue during the hours I am up. The first month I was on it, I was sleeping close to 20 hours a day until my body got more adjusted to it. Also, when I was just taking illicit drugs, I was extremely more active and social. I could go 2-3 days without using before withdrawals set in. With methadone, I experience withdrawals every single morning. No matter what dose I am at, it doesn’t last 24 hours. My social life is nonexistent, I haven’t hung out with a friend and done something in 4-5 years.

I’ve had RSD/CRPS for 13+ years. Over that time, I’ve been tried on nearly every pain med, & none were very effective. Methadone turned out to be a miracle drug for my CRPS. I’m still not pain-free (never will be) but it takes the edge off better than every other pain med I’ve ever tried combined. There is one major downside though. Methadone is usually prescribed just once a day. That’s plenty for those taking it for opioid addiction, but for it to treat pain for the whole day, it’s needed every 2-3 times per day. Most doctors won’t allow for dosing more frequent than once a day. If you’re lucky, you might find a great doctor who’ll help you bridge the gap with a small Rx of breakthrough pain meds. I just recently found a new doctor who is actually concerned about my quality of life, who’s been making me feel like living with CRPS might be possible – not just waiting anxiously to die. It’s amazing.

At first, I’ve got to say it was scary. It can have you feeling all sorts of ways. I’ve come down from 90ml to 10ml. What worries me is how the deep pain in bones and sore legs is dealt with? Should I be prescribed something else to cope with this? Methadone truly saved my life. I tasted withdrawal by my own stupidity missing the chemist, and it was not nice, but don’t think too much about it. Remember it and set alarms so you don’t miss. It gets you into a routine, go at the same time every day. If you aren’t like me and forget (which in a way is good because it shows your body is starting to forget the addiction), but do it how you feel. Start with what the doctor recommends, take it easy, and don’t read all the stuff about it being impossible to come off methadone, and do not accept staying on for the rest of your life. Life is beautiful ❤️

Methadone is what helped me get off heroin. I had 15 years of using heroin, and I’ve been on maintenance for almost 2 1/2 years. I have been getting my dose lowered with time, so I can completely get off methadone. But methadone works. It has worked for me, and I am very thankful and grateful that I am off heroin. I started on 60mg, had to go up to 70mg, then 80mg, since I still had cravings and couldn’t sleep at night. Once I was on 80mg, the cravings stopped and I was able to go 24 hours without getting sick. Methadone has honestly saved my life. I don’t know if I would be alive right now. I was really getting out of hand with my heroin use. Methadone does work, you just have to really want it. I didn’t think I would ever get sober. I am gradually going down on my dosage, reducing it by 2mg every 2 months. I just let my counselor know and she puts it in, then the doctor signs it off. In the beginning, I used to get very nauseous and was always throwing up, but I learned I had to take it with food. Methadone does work.

I have been on Methadone since 2017, off and on. I am currently on the dispersible Diskets. I have also been on the red liquid. I was a homeless addict, and now I am housed, working, and back in school. I could never do that while being a heroin addict. Can’t do anything while you are in withdrawal. I’m not going to lie, I enjoy using, but I enjoy my life even better. Being able to pay a bill or buy something I want is a GREAT feeling. You have to make a choice: do you want to keep using or be sick? You don’t have to be on Methadone for the rest of your life, unless you want to. Good luck to you.

UK. Been on heroin a long, long time and also been to the meth clinic many times. This time it’s been 10 years+ on meth. Here, they have to start you on a measly 30ml and everyday add on 10 ml. So, most get fed up and stop at the 60/80 ml range. (You never hear of the 150/180 ml that the Americans write here). It’s all free though, max £10 a month. 3 months of compulsory daily supervised at the pharmacy, i.e., you have to drink it in front of the pharmacist.”

This is by far the best treatment for my neuropathy. But, because of the ‘opioid crisis’, my dosage has been dropped to such a low level that it is barely effective. It is so frustrating to know I could live a normal life if just adequately prescribed. Instead, I hardly have a life at all.

Saved my life! My highest dose was 125. I absolutely hated the clinic, but the methadone assisted me in living a productive life. I was on it for 5 years. If you lower yourself 1 mg per week & you listen to your body, getting off of it is possible too.

I was prescribed methadone for acute and chronic pain from an incurable genetic disorder a few years ago. (Ehlers Danlos Syndrome). It was wonderful and very effective. No euphoria. I had previously thought methadone was used only to keep opioid addicts from withdrawal. I didn’t know it actually helped with pain. The one BIG problem I had was that other doctors, including all ER docs, thought the same thing. They all thought I was a drug addict! When I stopped taking methadone, every doctor I saw after that assumed I was an addict. They didn’t tell me that; I learned from a judgmental nurse that her doctor didn’t prescribe pain meds for drug addicts like me. (I went there because I broke my ankle.) Methadone’s association with drug addiction is a huge problem because it is an excellent pain medication.

It helped me get off of heroin but after being on it about 2 years made all of my teeth crumble. I’ve never had problems with my teeth and have always taken good hygiene care. If I would have known this I would have never gotten on it.

Great for around-the-clock pain. Lasts all day. Much stronger than other typical opiates.

I have been taking 100 mg of methadone per day for 10 years for opioid addiction. I have experienced many side effects, such as heavy sweating, blurred vision, and difficulty breathing. Although I managed to not use for over a year, I am now ready to come off it and get back to real life. Methadone has many side effects that affect the body, and it should only be used for the short term to get off drugs. If you stay on it for more than a year, it can have bad side effects. The doctors at the methadone clinic seem to be oblivious to the side effects. I have been to more than one methadone clinic, so I know this is true across the board. I believe addiction is a state of mind. Once the physical withdrawal is over, it is definitely a mindset. It is very difficult to quit using drugs when your partner is using them too. It’s much easier to quit when you’re away from them. I learned that the hard way.

Methadone has been a God send for me because if not for Methadone I would be dead or wishing I was dead from heroin. I’m on 150 mg and have been on 150 mg for over a year maybe 2 years now.

I have been using methadone for my MS pain since 2012. Unlike hydrocodone, the doctor does not have to keep increasing the milligram because it is synthetic.

I have been taking 150 mg of medication per day for about 10 years now. I am almost 60 years old, and it has worked out well, allowing me to become a normal person in my life. I only feel sleepy if other things are going on in my life, like if I am not feeling well or stressed, especially in the late afternoon because I have been awake for 12-14 hours. I have a high-stress job, and I think it is completely normal. If I know it, I deal with it. The only other type of pain medication I take is ibuprofen occasionally. I am also on Klonopin for anxiety, just 0.5 twice a day, and I take two antidepressants because I have been severely depressed due to opiate withdrawal at the very beginning and some life situations.

I have been taking Methadone for chronic back pain and all other associated conditions related to back issues. I have taken it for 20 years. On my recent pain management appointment, we tried switching up medications and I was prescribed Oxycodone. Well, needless to say, Methadone was working way better than I thought. There are chronic pain patients that take their medications as prescribed and don’t abuse them. Methadone definitely works better than any other in my opinion.

Methadone has helped me in various ways when I was unaware. I had been using pain medication for five years before transitioning to methadone 25mg. Although counselors are available to help, ultimately it is up to one’s mindset to increase the dosage for comfort. Presently, I am still on methadone, and while I wish to discontinue its use, it is daunting with the responsibility of raising a child, working, and paying bills. I am grateful for methadone’s presence in my life, particularly since fentanyl has taken over the streets and is less forgiving. While it is a double-edged sword, I have a love-hate relationship with it. I appreciate that it has been a reliable companion, yet I wonder when I will be courageous enough to let go and live completely sober. Nonetheless, I have come a long way and am content with my progress, although some days are more challenging than others. Reading comments from others going through the same experiences has been reassuring, and I feel less alone. I thank everyone, and I pray that individuals struggling with addiction find peace of mind and happiness with their loved ones, as life is fleeting.

I have been on methadone/methadose for 15 years for fibromyalgia and lumbar and cervical stenosis. The doctor started me at 20 mg, 3 times a day, but I didn’t like being on so much, so I weaned down to 5 mg twice a day 10 years ago. Although I have worse pain now from spondylolisthesis and chronic sciatica in my right leg, I’m finding the low dose is still working. Sure, there are days I could take more, but I just don’t. It doesn’t take all the different types of pain away, but it’s been a lifesaver for me. The side effects for me are a lack of motivation and some minor memory loss at times, but nothing serious.

I’ve been on methadone since June 2001, and it has been a lifesaver. I cannot function without an opiate in my system. Methadone has given me my life back, and for that, I will always be grateful. I will be on methadone for the rest of my life, absolutely no problem with that. And for those saying I’m not really clean, I am. I haven’t relapsed since 2003. I am thankful this wonderful drug has been invented and has given so many their lives back.

I’m a 46-year-old male who has been opiate dependent for over 20 years. My main drug was heroin. I’ve been on Methadone off and on since 1993. I live in Greenville, SC. I’ve been on Methadone this time for over 12 years. With this ‘opiate crisis’ and fentanyl in any heroin around, yes, Methadone is dependent, but it’s saved my life!!! I was also in a severe car wreck and now I’m loaded with titanium. Due to the wreck, I have chronic right femur pain where I had a compound fracture, and it works better than anything else I’ve been on, like Dilaudid, MS Contin, Opana, etc. Anyway, it’s like everything in this world, it’s a double-edged sword.

I was on methadone for 15 years. Started at 80 mg and went up to 130 mg. I was a heroin addict at 16 years old and got on methadone at 21 yo. I used every day on top of the methadone for the first 10 years. My main problem was my body metabolized it quick so by the time I got off work I didn’t feel too good. I felt hopeless thinking I’m on 130 mg how will I ever get to 0 mg when I feel like rubbish in the 2nd half of the day. A childhood friend who had the identical drug history as me got off methadone and showed me the formula to do so. First, I found a way to gain a few take homes. On the days I had take homes I split my dose half before work, half after work. I promise you it takes a day or 2 to get used to this (that is it). Those days I felt great all day. I looked forward to getting off work, taking my 2nd half, and relaxing. Eventually, I gained a month of take homes where I could split my dose every day. Then he told me to erase the mg# on my bottle and come down 2 mg a month. I never felt it.

I was on a clinic for several years and was clean for over 7 years so I only had to go into the clinic once a month, having 28 take home bottles! Last week it was my day to come to the clinic and give them a urine sample and pick up my 28 bottles for the month but the month I hadn’t been there they changed the rules on how to give your empty bottles back but nobody told me so I gave my bottles back the way I always had and I noticed that all but one nurse was new and they accused me of not following the rules and took ALL my 28 bottles away from me and said I would have to come in everyday and so I went to another clinic but the clinic I was on would not give them any of my records and had to call a lawyer and now in the meantime I have to go to a new clinic until this gets straightened out! Only good thing is that the clinic I was on has already offered a fair sum of money but my lawyer is sure that we can do much better than they offered.. wish me luck, and be careful about clinic

It helped me get sober from heroin/fentanyl. I was on methadone for four and a half years and completed my taper almost three weeks ago. I’m opioid-free for the first time in 17 years!

After numerous broken bones, also neck and back, severe pain daily. Went to pain management years ago, have been on the train ride of pain relievers. Got an offer from my current doctor to try methadone 10 mg 3 times a day along with a 2 mg Dilaudid 3 times a day. Wow.

I have been on the ‘(M.A.T.)’ Methadone since 2016. I went all the way up to 125. But because I take Xanax, they would cut my dose in half until I was able to not have that in my system, so I just never went back up. I stayed at the half dose and then went down from there, and I am currently on 19 mg. Today was the first day that I actually felt a physical withdrawal because I did not take my Sunday take-home dose. My husband was tragically killed back in October, so my counselor suggested that I don’t go down at least until springtime, but I was going down 5 mg at a time and then I started going down 1 mg until I got to 19 mg.
